LAKE CHELAN, WA (September 8, 2017) — Smoke persisted in the area and kept fire behavior and fire growth subdued. Air operations were grounded due to smoky skies. The 6-mile long containment line along Coyote Ridge down to Lake Chelan was completed, including distribution of fire hose and water. Crews also have constructed dozer line from Nelson Butte south one mile down the ridge line.

The Canoe Creek area to the west and the Llama Ranch area to the southeast remain under Level 1 evacuation (get ready).

Today: With favorable fire and weather conditions, crews are now working on a containment line closer to the fire from Nelson Butte down toward the lake between Safety Harbor and Coyote Creeks.

Crews will continue to improve roads for safe operations travel for firefighters. With clear skies in the fire area, air operations will continue as the smoke dissipates. Structure protection will continue in Canoe Creek area.

Smoke: With northwesterly winds setting up early today, smoke should life in the fire area. It may continue to linger on the lake, but Saturday should bring good ventilation with a cold front passing through. More information about smoke and your health is available at wasmoke.blogspot.com.

Closures: Current road closures include the Grade Creek Rd to the intersection with FS 4330-600. Trail closures: Uno Peak Trail, Safety Harbor Trail, Summit Trail (from South Navarre Campground to junction with FS Trail 1258), Summer Blossom, Foggy Dew, Crater Creek and Martin Lakes.  The Deer Point and Safety Harbor Campgrounds are also closed.
