Wildfire Update 9/11/17

Air operations take advantage of clear skies

Fire: Uno Peak

Acres: 7,336

Cause: Under Investigation

Total Personnel: 273

Completion: 1%

Start Date: August 30, 2017

Location: 15 miles NW of Manson, WA

Fuels/Topography: Timber, grass, rugged terrain

LAKE CHELAN, WA (September 11, 2017) — Low humidity in the higher elevations caused the fire to be more active and burn interior pockets of fuel. The fire remains within the containment lines. Two Black Hawk helicopters from the Washington Air National Guard and a Type 3 helicopter provided air support throughout the day. The helicopters conducted water drops along the eastern edge and interior pockets of the fire. Work continued on the dozer line down Nelson Butte Ridge and the hand line down to the lake was complete.

The structure group continued work within the Canoe Creek area. The Canoe Creek area to the west and the Llama Ranch area to the southeast remain under a Level 1 evacuation (get ready).

Today: Crews will continue working on the northeast end of the fire towards Sawtooth Ridge, looking for opportunities to tie the fire into rocky terrain. Along Nelson Butte Ridge, crews will continue working to strengthen and improve the dozer line and hand line down the ridge to the lake. This may include using some burning operations if weather allows.

The structure protection group will complete work in the Canoe Creek area. Road improvements continue and are expected to be completed by next weekend. Air resources will continue to support the ground operations, and the two Black Hawk helicopters will continue water drops along the fire edges.

Weather today will be similar to that of yesterday, with warm temperatures in the mid-70s and lower humidity. This is being caused by a very dry layer of air that is expected to persist through Tuesday morning. The warmer drier weather on the fire is encouraging interior fuels to torch and causing some plumes of smoke.

Smoke: Smoke has cleared the area due to the northwest winds. More information about smoke and your health is available at wasmoke.blogspot.com.

Closures: Current road closures include the Grade Creek Rd to the intersection with FS 4330-600. Trail closures: Uno Peak Trail, Safety Harbor Trail, Summit Trail (from South Navarre Campground to junction with FS Trail 1258), Summer Blossom, Foggy Dew, Crater Creek and Martin Lakes.  The Deer Point and Safety Harbor Campgrounds are also closed. Foggy Dew Campground remains open. Closure map is available at: https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/map/5572/1/73036
