LAKE CHELAN, WA (September 6, 2017) — The fire continued to grow to the northeast in the Safety harbor drainage area. A Level 1 evacuation notice (prepare and be aware) remains in place for two private inholdings along the lake, the Llama Ranch are to the south and Canoe Creek to the north. Crews continued to complete structure protection in the Llama Ranch area. The fire remained approximately 3 miles from these areas.

Dozers and hand crews continued to build and strengthen the indirect primary line down Coyote Ridge. Portions of the 8200 Road were graded and brushed to improve safe vehicle traffic. Due to heavy smoke, air resources were grounded all day.

Today: Crews will continue to work on building and improving the primary indirect line, finish structure protection and sprinkler lays in the Llama Ranch area, and begin structure protection in the Canoe Creek area. Smoke may keep the fire shaded and moderate fire activity. Crews will continue with culvert installation on Gold Creek and road improvements along the 8200 Road.

Fire weather conditions remain at critical levels. Humidity recovery was poor last night and relative humidity will be low again today. Temperatures are forecasted for near record levels in the mid to upper 80s. A chance of thunderstorms is expected Thursday and Friday of this week.

Smoke: Heavy smoke from the Uno Fire, as well as many others around the region, will stay in the valleys in the morning due to an air inversion that will lift later in the day. After the inversion lifts, expect smoke to continue to drift down Lake Chelan and be highly visible from the communities of Manson, Chelan, Pateros, Brewster and Twisp. More information about smoke and your health is available at wasmoke.blogspot.com.

Closures: New closures from the South Fork Gold Creek to Crater Creek in the Method Valley have been implemented. Current closures include the Grade Creek Rd to the intersection with FS 4330-600. Trail closures: Uno Peak Trail, Safety Harbor Trail, Summit Trail (from South Navarre Campground to junction with FS Trail 1258) and Summer Blossom. Foggy Dew campground remains open. The Deer Point and Safety Harbor Campgrounds are also closed.
